What happened in the pike river disaster?

What basically happened was there was an explosion at the pike river mine in Greymouth New Zealand. 2 men were able to walk out and were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. 29 other men were trapped underground. Police were quite hopeful that there could be a survival mission but then, a few days later, there was another massive explosion. Those 29 men are now presumed dead. Now all together there has been 4 explosions. 3 robots have tried to go into the mine. The first one got about 500 metres into the mine and then broke down, the second one went further and got gas samples which is why they didn't start a survival mission and the third one, is helping the first one.
