Since the last mention of Joseph is when Jesus was 12 and he was not mentioned again it is taken to mean he died before Jesus began His ministry.

Jesus, while on the cross, told John ( "the disciple whom Jesus loved") to look after his mother. Jesus was looking after her because He was the eldest son. He would not have been doing this if Joseph was still alive, so Joseph must have died.

After Jesus died the care of Mary would normally have fallen to James, Jose and their sisters. However, they did not then believe that Jesus was the Messiah so Jesus put Mary in the care of his friend John. John wrote his 2nd Epistle to her:-

2 John 1

1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; ...4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children [that is, James, Jose and their sisters] walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

5 And now I beseech thee, lady, ....

10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:...

12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face,... 13 The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.

John then took her with him to Ephesus where she died.

The synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) and Acts of the Apostles do not say what would happen to Mary after the death of Jesus. They do not even say whether Joseph was still alive.

John's Gospel has Jesus, while on the cross, tell "the disciple whom Jesus loved" to look after his mother. This is disputable, not only because the synoptic authors did not mention this statement, but because (if Joseph was dead) it would have fallen to James, Jose and their sisters to look after Mary. It is possible that the author of John's Gospel was trying to promote the image of the unnamed disciple, whom some later saw as being John himself.

Who was lazarus and what happened to him?

He was the brother of Mary and Martha. He died, but then he got better. (He had some help... Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were friends of Jesus.) There is another unrelated Lazarus in a parable told by Jesus. He was a rich man. He also died, but he didn't get better. In fact, he spent eternity in torment.
