Shakespeare was married to a woman older than him, who didn't give him a male heir. They did have a son, Hamnet that died at a young age, after this heartbreak Shakespeare left his family in Westminster Abbey to become an actor and writer in London. He became successful and provided for his wife and daughters until he moved back home. It is rumored than when Shakespeare died he didn't leave anything to his wife. So his marriage deteriorated.
