I am unaware of the Allen brothers. Most sources say it was Clive Davis, head of Arista Records, who discovered her, although this is not entirely accurate. Whitney had performed with her mother's group and had also sung back-up for several established artists. As a result, there were a number of people who asked Davis to see her perform, including Gerry Griffith, a member of the Artists and Repertoire staff for Arista Records. Davis did finally go to see Whitney, when she was performing at a club called Sweet Waters, in New York. He was impressed and signed her. So, although he was the one who helped to launch her career by giving her a recording contract, he really did not "discover" her.
