Initially they were frightened and hid behind locked doors, thinking they might get arrested next.
Later, after the resurrection they became fearless witness to the fact.
At Pentecost they were filled with the Holy spirit for this purpose. Quite a number died for the faith.
A disciple is actually a follower who allows himself to be discipled by his teacher. Jesus had many followers, then and today, who refused to be discipled. As Mary Magdalene was one of the first people at the tomb, it seems likely that she was a disciple.
