After the 1929 Stock Market crash, the Great Depression began in 1930 and it lasted the entire decade. Unemployment in the United States was as high as 25% and in other countries, and 33% in many other countries. Over 5,000 banks went out of business and over a hundred thousand people became homeless. The end of the depression began around the beginning of World War II.
