This question is nebulous. Jerusalem has been built or modified over 26 times and razed to the ground 13 times. There were many walls involved in this process and it would be mindless to try to cover all of them. Please narrow your focus.

An incredible myriad of things have happened in Jerusalem. Some of them include its founding as a Canaanite city, its purpose as the capital of the Jewish Kingdoms of United Israel and Judah, its occupation by numerous empires, its centrality in the Crusades, and its centrality in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the First Temple in 586 B.C.E. and the Romans led by Titus destroyed the Second Temple in 70 C.E. Both of them used military siege engines, battering rams, and fire to destroy the structures.

Jerusalem and the Temple was destroyed twice:

  1. By the Babylonians under Nebuchadnezzar in 586 BCE
  2. By the Romans under Titus in 70 CE
