6,000,000 people died in the holocaust. Although they were not all Jews, some were Greek Jews, homosexuals, or anybody who stood up against the Nazis. These are all of the people i know of to be killed but i am pretty sure there are more types of people who died.

because they were one of the only two countries where their Gentile neighbours stood up for them against the Nazis

If everyone stood up against the Holocaust would it have happened?

it is possible because Hitler tried to send the disabled people to concentration camps and everyone protested so if the Germans who were not the subjects of prejudice had complained about the Jews and roma/sinti and poles etc. being sent off to concentration camps it is likely. also if during WWI a bullet that nearly missed Hitler (true) had been just a little to the right (or Hitler's left) then WWII itself may never have happened

Why were Jewish people globally recognized as victims of the Nazi Holocaust?

Because the Jewish people were the ones targeted, persecuted and murdered by the Nazis during the holocaust. Hitler declared his disdain for the jews, therefore his army, under his orders, slaughtered them by the millions. There were only a few of Hitler's soldiers that secretly despised what Hitler was doing and what he stood for, but the majority of Hitler's army took a perverted pleasure in the torture, mutilation, and murder of millions of innocent people just because they were Jewish. No other people (that I know of) were targeted by the Nazis like the Jewish people were. It made no difference to them if they killed infants and children, women or men.
