He also interrogates the God of the Sun, who found out what happened. Zeus orders Hades to give Persephone back, but only if she didn't eat any food while in the Underworld. Persephone, unfortunately, had consumed three pomegranate seeds, and was forced to stay in the Underworld for half the year and could stay with her mother for the other half (Her mother is Demeter, remember.) So while Demeter had her daughter, the Earth enjoyed Spring and Summer. But when Persephone was forced to join Hades the other half of the year, Demeter made the land suffer during her misery, producing Fall and Winter. That's how the seasons were born, and that's how Demeter got famous.
