The rain forest helps reduce the level of CO2 in the air and increases the amount of O2. If the rain-forest were to be cut down the levels of CO2 would rise and after time Earth would look something like Venus.

All of these are side effects of what could happen if the rainforests were to disappear. The rainforest filters over tewnty percent of our oxygen supply, so this would accelerate global warming. Also, 80% of the world's diet is thought to hold its origins in the rainforest, so potentially unique foods such as the peach palm, which holds as much carbohydrates as maize and has twice the food value, would be lost. 25% of our medicines are believed to have their origins in the rainforest, and potentially undiscovered ones would be lost. These could be revolutionary cures, such as the cure for leukimia which has been discovered.

The forest would die.The first thing would be that the insects that eat and live among fallen leaves and other debris and dead animals would no longer be there to break down the mulch which is used by the forests plants for fertiliser. so the soil would be come Les fertile. insects cry pollen from plant to plant fertilising the seeds that would top happening meaning that the plants that are replaced on a yearly basis would disappear. many animals that live in the Forest rely on ground plants to eat and for shelter. The whole system would be thrown into disarray and the vegetation in the area would thin out and nearly disappear.

What would happen if all the rainforests were destroyed and what would happen with all the carbon dioxide?

If all the rainforests were destroyed then global warming will continue unchecked. Even if we changed over to renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro, tidal and wave, geothermal and biofuel) there would still be enough carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere to continue warming for many years.
