This just happened to me recently and what happens is that you will feel extreme pain and be in pain for at least a week or more. Tomorrow it will be a week since it happened and I still am in need of pain medication. I am unaware if there will be any long term damage but I do know that you must be on antibiotics because there is a good chance of infection.
