If a mosquito bites you then a red bump will begin to appear wherever the saliva was applied. The bump will get swollen and itch like crazy but as long as you don't scratch, it should feel better within an hour or 2. But scratching the bite will make it much worse. Especially in the night. If the bite is big enough, you may wake up in the middle of the night in bed with a horrible itch where the bite is. Although it may seem impossible, just try to ignore it and you will be back to sleep in a matter of a few minutes. Wearing mittens at night might help because as long as you keep them on, it will prevent you from scratching and it will help the bite feel better sooner.

That's pretty simple.......

It hurts because whenever mosquito bites, it actually inserts its suck-needle into our skin for blood sucking. Which is off-course full of numerous kinds of infectious and dangerous germs as it sits on almost every liquid (E.g. urine, dirty water etc) So whenever our immune system detects these dangerous and harmful bodies entering our body, they start warning and red alerts through neurons to our brain.
