No! Rabbits should eat as much hay as they can and want to eat. You should only be concerned if your rabbit isn't eating enough hay. In fact, you should make sure your rabbit has a constant supply of fresh hay (timothy or other grass hays; alfalfa is not that good for adults, only babies).

It is possible for them to eat too much of the pellet food, though, which can cause obesity and all kinds of health and digestive problems. And too many greens can cause diarrhea or other digestive problems.

Rabbits can't eat too much hay. Hay is so good for them: it's important food their mental health, dental health, and digestive health!

Aside from hay, rabbits can definitely over-eat. If a rabbit eats too much of anything other than hay, she might "spoil" her appetite for hay and not eat enough of it, which can lead to ill health (cecal dysbiosis, G.I. stasis, dental spurs, etc.).

There are other reasons not to let your rabbit over-eat:

  • Some fresh foods cause gas in rabbits (like broccoli), which can actually be a very serious condition (even life-threatening if it leads to G.I. stasis), so they should be limited, or even avoided if your rabbit is particularly sensitive
  • Pellets, even high-quality ones, are relatively high in proteins and fats, which rabbits need very little of -- overeating these "junk" foods can lead to obesity and poor health
  • Fruits and some vegetables are high in sugars and carbs (like carrots) -- too much sugar can lead to serious tummy upset, or obesity over time and poor health

Like any other animal, it will become overweight and possibly die from overeating. Some animals do not have the control mechanisms to stop eating when they feel full and will constantly eat until there is nothing more to consume.
