A spiral fracture is bone breakage caused by a twisting force. They are also known as torsion fractures. Treatment can be months in a cast and possible surgery. The classic example is when skiers lock their boots into the ski and then lose control, the leg may be violently twisted in one direction.

In English, this is a spiral fracture.
In a femur it would be something like a hard landing on your foot causing pressure and thereby creating a spiral as it cracked in an upward motion. In an arm is similar. It takes a lot of force to cause a spiral fracture.
