Use more sunblock in the future and reapply it every 15 minutes (I know it's a drag but its worth it). Now if you do get a sunburn DO NOT PEEL IT!!! Not only will this make it more noticeable but it can get infected. Drink lots of water to get it from the inside. If it itches take a cool shower or bath then apply lotion. Trust me, I just got back from Cali and I forgot my sunscreen!

Well it is not dangerous to peel the skin from a sunburn because it is probably dead skin. But if it is best to leave it alone in case. In many cases though your skin is already peeling from the sunburn so you should use Aloe Vera plant. You should apply it daily and see it getting better in a week or more.

Not all burns peel. Not all burns need to peel. Peeling is the product of damage to the top layers of your skin. Keeping your skin moisturized after sun exposure it the key to preventing excessive peeling.

Why does a sunburn peel?

A sunburn is a first degree burn. As painful as being scalded with hot water and just as damaging to the flesh killing the cells of several layers of skin cells. When skin cells die they dry and flake off and we usually never even notice. 90% of the dust in a home is comprised of dead skin cells of the occupants. Dandruff is also nothing more than dead skin cells. When you get a sunburn, the body stops supplying those cells with nutrients. The tender flesh beneath is still in close proximity to blood capillaries and nerve tissues. Standard secretion of sweat and skin oils help to push away and shed the damaged and dead skin cells when it is ready. That is what causes the peeling. It's usually better to let the skin peel naturally, so the tender flesh beneath isn't exposed until it is ready.
