You should respond to any summons, that is the law.

However, that said, if you do ignore it, then usually nothing happens. They send out so many because they know that some addresses will no longer be valid. And since enough people typically do show up, they need not call out the dogs to track you down.

On the other hand, some counties - knowing that people know this - have made more of an issue of it in recent years. But even in such cases as they sending someone to your door, if you simply claim not getting it, then they'd hand you one personally and let it go at that.

If on the other hand you do as some have, and send them a letter saying "no", or call them and say "no", or acknowledge getting the summons and say you threw it out, then you are likely to be in a great deal of trouble. Not only is it against the law, but it flouts the very court system that will then have the task of enforcing that law - right upon you!

Best to show up. If you want out that badly, explain to the judge that you are a believer in Jury Nullification (look it up) and thus cannot swear or affirm the Juror's Oath. It's legal to believe in that, but they don't like it to be, so they'll - in every instance I've heard of - let you go.
