Making a false police report is a criminal offense, for which you can be charged, arrested and jailed. Some states also make it a criminal offense to make a false official statement to a law enforcement officer. This would be treated similarly. Tell the truth the first time and every time, and you'll both avoid being prosecuted for lying and you won't have to keep track of which lie you told to what person.

∙ 15y agoThis would depend on the district attorney and/or police department. Also, whether or not you FILED a false police report (Filing a false police report may be the charge) or whether you lied as a suspect; in this case, you could be charged with perjury. This all depends though. Keep in mind, that if one is honest proceding the dishonesty, one is more likely to be viewed in the positive.

∙ 13y agoIt depends on the circumstances. If you were making a false report - if your lying on a witness statement - if you were lying about being involved in an unlawful incident - etc - etc - etc.
It is always against the law to make false or untrue statements to an investigating officer, but it is the seriousness of the outcome of your lying that may determine the ultimate seriousness of your offense.

If you lie to police, they could suspect you of having something to hide, or that you would not make a credible witness.

It depends on what state your in, most states have a law that if someone cut you off casuing you to hit them, they are at fault. If they drove off, your best bet is to file an uninsured motorist claim with your insurance. It lies in between since you weren't far away enough to brake without hitting them. BUT they left the scene of an accident, hit and run. If you have there license plate #, go the police and report it. You might have to have a police report for your insurance company.

The question is awfully vague. If the informant lies and the police know it's a lie but use it as a pretense for a search anyway, it might apply.
