What happens if you lose your USPS delivery confirmation number?

If you lose the receipt with the delivery confirmation, there is no way you can retrieve it. Even if you call 1800-ASK-USPS. Trust me I just tried after I noticed no one answered you question. Hopefully this will help anybody else asking the same question.
Note to self: HOLD ON TO THAT RECEIPT!
