However, this is not the primary reason for the release of carbon dioxide gas . If you look at a Mentos with a powerful microscope, you will see that it has a very rough surface, that looks somewhat like pumice. This bumpy surface attracts the carbon dioxide in the Diet Coke to the point where a bubble forms, at which point it's released and rises to the top of the coke. Multiply this by a couple million times around the entire Mentos, and you have a fountain!

∙ 11y agoif you just have one in your mouth not much will happen. you would have to have a lot in your mouth for it to do something. what will happen is it will foam kinda slowly, then the more you drink the more foam then a little will start shooting out of your mouth. I have tried this myself so I would know :).
but if u want a quicker reaction here is the other way I tried it, I got a big thing of coke and a whole pack of mentos. took the cap off the soda don't shake it! Then I put the whole pack of mentos in my mouth, this is kind a hard to do. then I put my mouth over the coke bottle like you I am about to drink some. then began spitting the mentos in the coke bottle. I knew from watching videos that it doesn't take long so I spit as may in as I could. I was only able to get about 3 mentos in before the reaction happened quickly and it shot back in my mouth. I tried to keep it in by tightening my mouth on the coke bottle but couldn't and the coke spewed out of my mouth. then my cheecks started to hurt a little but after about 20 secs its all over.
you wont die and is completely safe and fun to try! its just a bit surprising but that's all
