Your piercing is an open wound. If you don't keep something in it to keep it from healing then it will close up and you will have to get another piercing. Even after they've healed your skin is constantly making new skin cells, so if you leave your earrings out for a couple of months your skin will fill up the hole with new skin cells and it will close up again.

Have you tried different metals? Look for surgical steel, glass or titanium earrings. It may just be that you are allergic to nickel or another metal commonly used in earrings.
Go buy some earrings. I would suggest not real big or heavy at first. If you want to be safe, wear earrings that have gold-backs.
