Cheap shampoos usually have a higher pH so they are too harsh on your hair. Some can do as much damage as an acid perm! Shampoos and conditioners are made using different ingredients to target specific hair types or problems so mostly you just won't be doing yourself any favors by using one made for different needs than yours. The most important thing I can tell you is to always use conditioner after you shampoo. This is what closes and smooths the cuticle back down and replaces vital nutrients lost in the shampooing. Without it you leave your hair open and vulnerable to more damage from heat when styling, sun, and free radicals in the environment.
Herbal Essence, (excuse my spelling if it's wrong) Johnson's Baby Shampoo, or Pantene. I use Pantene, which is what I use for my hair. If you don't have any of these, just use what you have =)
