Very common. Knew I probably wasn't the first to ask months ago and surely won't be the last. The officer may take one of several courses of action. For starters, why were you stopped to begin with? What he does depends mostly on that. What state do you live in? Were you driving within the state the permit or often referred to as "learner's" or "restricted" license was issued? Did you have the required ammout of liability insurance on the vehicle? I can guess that if it was your own car, that was legitimately registered with the DMV, you had current liability insurance, and were not in violation of any serious law, and the officer is not in the moode to do a "Rodney King" number he will have a serious talk with you and advise you to go straight home warning that a future offense will result in siezure of the vehicle (state auctioned off, not just impounded) along with citation and/or arrest. In Nevada no points are assigned, they just yank the permit and it could cost you up to $200.00 paying the reinstatement fee. If you're real unlucky they may even impose a 60 day delay before you can get the actual license. While there are some territories, counties, areas, and states who are liberal on this issue looking at it as nothing more than a simple violation of a restriction there are others who are much more harsh and in other some states I think it might even be a FELONY as others have asked the severity of this offense lately. If you're thinking about doing so, it is my suggestion you reconsider. If you were to get caught, you're life may be forever damaged and you may not be able to pursue the career you want.. for what? Feel free to e-mail me any questions.

You'll either be arrested or taken to a juvenile detention center (depending on your age) and you will loose your learners permit. Its pretty much the same as driving with a suspended license.

If you happen to get caught driving with a permit only your permit will be suspended for a period of time. This is what happens even if you are over the age of 21.

Would be cited for driving without a licensed driver, it is up to the officer if he wants to impound the vehicle, but this can also happen.

Driving on a learners permit means that there are restrictions to how you're allowed to drive.
