6th December is St Nicholas' Day. (Santa Claus is based on St Nicholas). On the 6th of DDecember in Germany, St Nicholas or Nikolaus would hand out sweets and fruit to all the good children but if you were bad his helper would give you a whip so your parents could punish you.
St Nicholas was based on the Bishop who gave money to the poor.

∙ 12y agoChildren put there shoes outside their bedroom doors and let St.Nikolaus put sweets in there shoes. It started off with coins but then changed to sweets and chocolate.There are often parades through towns.:)

∙ 14y agoChristmas Eve is the big highlight of the Christmas season. Germans exchange gifts on Christmas Eve. In the past the Christmas tree was decorated on Christmas Eve, children would get to see it first time when "Bescherung" starts (gifts giving on Christmas Eve). Food on Christmas Eve varies depending on the region.
