Aeolus lived on the island with his wife, as well as his six sons and six daughters. Each of his son was married to one of his daughters. Upon leaving, the wind-god gave Odysseus a bag made of ox-hide, trapping all the strong winds within. Aeolus warned Odysseus not to open the bag. Odysseus sailed for nine straight days without sleep.
