Well, the gas is, or can very well be the same. The difference is that small 2-strokes usually need a percentage of oil mixed into the fuels, which 4-strokes don't.

If you run an engine expecting a little oil in the fuel on pure fuel it won't get the lubrication it needs. Metal will rub on metal. It'll get hot and cause wear. Pistons can seize and bearings can wear out.

What kind of gas do you put in a 4 stroke?

Generally, you should use 4 stroke gas, however if you don't have access to 4 stroke gas, then 2 stroke gas may be used as long as you squeeze all the oil out of the 2 stroke gas before pouring it into your machine. Also, remember to only use liquid gas, as dry gas does not combust as well.

What would happen if you add 2 stroke instead of 4 stroke to mower?

2 stroke gas/oil mix? it will run fine, might smoke some due to burning some oil. just dont run reg gas w/o oil in a 4 stroke. I wouldnt run 2 stroke mix in a 4 stroke all the time, but is fine in a pinch (ive done it in my quad, after running out on a ride and got enough to get back from a guy w/ a zilla)
