Most plants grow up, or away from gravity. Even vining plants will first grow upwards before they grow too long and start to vine. So, if a plant were subjected to a change in gravity...say, hung from an upside down pot...it would change it's growth direction to again grow away from gravity, growing upwards.

What happens to the roots when you place a plant on its side?

in most cases they will change direction and start growing downwards again. if you took the plant to outer space, where there is no gravity, they will grow in any direction.

A change in the direction a plant grows in response to gravity?

A change in plant growth due to gravity is gravitropism. Roots have a tendency to grow in the direction of strongest gravitational pull.

Which part of the plant shows a positive response to gravity?

The roots of a plant exhibit positive geotropism or gravitropism because they grow toward the direction of the pull of gravity.

How an average of zero gravity affects hydroponic plant growth?

as there will be zero gravity therefore the roots will not get dug inside the soil n the direction of plant will be upwards

What happens when a plant gets light from one direction?

When plant gets light from only one direction then plants bends towards light .

What controls geotropism and phototropism?

When the auxins in the plant act towards gravity... positive geotropism is wen the plant goes to the direction of gravity which would be downwards..negative geotropism would be upwards going against the natural gravity Phototropism is when the plant reacts towards the photosynthesis conditions where when light acts on the plant so the auxins burst and the plant bends towards light..this is positive phototropism...but when the plant goes against the direction of light it is then negative phototropism

Does gravity have any effect on plant?

Yes it does. Plant seeds distinguish between up and down based on gravity. Thatis how they decide the direction in which to send the first shoot. This needs to go in the "up" direction so that it can then capture sunlight and produce energy for its growth.

What is phototropism what does have to do with plants?

Tropism is the growth response of a plant caused by a stimulus. Gravitropism is the growth response of plant to gravity. The roots grow downward towards gravity, which is called positive gravitropism. The stem and upper part of a plant grow upward, away from gravity, which is called negative gravitropism.

What happens when a plant gets light from only one direction?

When plant gets light from only one direction then plants bends towards light .

What is the main stimuli affecting the growth of the shoot of the plant?

light, positive phototropism and towards the light gravity, negative geotropism and grow in opposite direction to gravity NOT WATER

What happens to energy from the sun during photosythesis?

it changes into chemical energy by plant

What is a negative gravitropism?

A tropism in which the roots of plant grow downward, in the direction of gravity
