ok I'm hoping u realise that alchemists do not exist really anymore. But they were employed to find various cure for things and generally most popularly to make things it to gold and things like that. They are perhaps the first sort of scientists that we had as humans. They tried to find the panacea which i think would be great if they did. (the panacea was meant to be a cure for all ailments) also they tried to find a universal solvent called the alkahest (what they planned to keep somehing that dissolved everthing in, who knows) but yes they were like scientists sorta except didn;t have any real idea why reactions occured and generally aimed a bit too high. many used to be employed to find a way to live forever. and if alchemists didn;t do there job they were killed. And so far i think it is evident it is impossible for them to do there jobs as they aimed to high with the whole living forever thing and all. The punishment was most likely death if they failed as they were emplyed by scary emperors and such. Lucky for them, many of there attempts at making there bosses (emperors and such) live forever contained lead and this is poisoness and may have killed off the boss before they could be punished. And this is all i remember of unit 1 VCE introduction to chemistry. Hope that helped a tiny bit
