Atomic Radius Decreases from left to right. From left to right the amount of valence shell electrons increases, maxing out at 8. These valence electrons are pulled by the positively charged nucleus, thus making it smaller from left to right.

What happens to ionization energy as you move across a period?

Because energy is required to remove an electron from a neutral atom, it increases up and right. It increases up a group and to the right a period because in small atoms, electrons are closer to the nucleus were the attraction is stronger. So these are harder to remove. But in larger atoms, electrons are further from the nucleus and are easier to remove. I learned this in my Chemistry class this year. Hope this helps anyone.

Nuclear charge increases across a period atoms become?

The atoms become smaller in atomic radius.

Is it true Moving across a row of the periodic table the atoms tend to get bigger?

yes

How many atoms fit across the period at the end of this sentence?

Assuming you are talking about a period made by carbon atoms (Pencil lead is almost pure carbon) and that period has a mass of 0.0001g Then the answer is 5x1018 atoms. There are 12.011g of carbon per mol, there are 6.022x1023 atoms per mol.1mol | 6.022x1023 atoms | 0.001 g |-----------|--------------------------|-------------| = 5x1018 atoms/period12.011g | 1 mol | period |

What happens to the molecules if they freeze?

well obviously atoms cant stop moving even at absolute 0. so the molecules will simply slow down but it can never stop moving

What trend electronegativity do you see across period on the periodic table?

The trend as you move from left to right across a period in the periodic table, the electronegativity increases due to the stronger attraction that the atoms obtain as the nuclear charge increases. Moving down a group, the electronegativity decreases due to the longer distance between the nucleus and the valence electron shell, thereby decreasing the attraction, making the atom have less of an attraction for electrons or protons.

When a substance is raised to its melting teperature what happens to the atom or molecules?

The inter-molecular bonds between the atoms/molecules are broken, releasing the atoms/molecules from a ridged structure to a freely moving mass.

What the energy of moving atoms?

Kinetic energy is possessed by moving atoms. It is the energy possessed by particles in motion.

Which best describes a kinetic theory?

atoms and molecules are always moving

Why do the properties of elements change across the period?

They change because the atomic number and mass differ from each other element. Going across the Periodic Table to the right, the atoms get smaller because another proton is added each time so the effective nuclear charge experienced by the electrons is greater and the electrons are pulled closer to the nucleus. Electronegativity increases as you progress across a period because smaller atoms are usually more likely to gain an electron. Ionization energy increases across a period because the atoms are smaller, pulled closer to the nucleus, so it takes more energy to break an electron away.

When matter changes from one phase to another what happens to the motion of molecules and how does it impact the spacing of the molecules?

it depends on which way its heading on the scale, if it's becoming more solid the atoms are moving less and compressing together if it' becoming more gaseous the atoms are moving more and expanding

What happens between atoms during a chemical reaction?

This happens when atoms are rearanged
