They most likely go to court and if found guilty they will be sentenced to 5 to 25 yrs. in the slammer! *** I believe that would depend on the laws of the county and state where the accuser goes to court. I've seen news stories of people torturing animals and they get off without any jail time and a little bit of community service. I've also seen news stories detailing people who have been sentenced 3-5 years for animal abuse. I do not recall ever seeing anyone sentenced for more that 5 years, but that could be my area (Mid-east USA) and just what is sensational enough to make the daily news.

∙ 14y agoWell usually it goes straight to the police who then call the animal officers that support the SPCA. Then both the police and Animal officers go and save the animals. Usually the Animal cop will save the animal while the police handle the abuser.
