Hamlet's ship was attacked by pirates. The pirates agreed to return Hamlet to Denmark for a price. He sent word to Horatio and asked him to get ready to meet him. We also learn that his traitorous friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, have met with some dire circumstances.
First, he decides to spy on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and looks at their sealed orders. Finding that they carry orders for the English to kill him, he substitutes an order that the English should kill Rosencrantz and Guildenstern instead. Second, pirates attack the ship Hamlet is travelling on and try to board. Hamlet joins in the fight, which takes him onto the pirate ship. The ships then separate and Hamlet goes back to Denmark with the pirates.
On the way to England, the ship which Hamlet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are travelling on is attacked by pirates. Hamlet jumps aboard the pirate ship which returns him to Denmark.

Claudius arranges to have the English authorities kill Hamlet
Claudius is concerned that Hamlet knows the truth about how he killed King Hamlet and has been watching Hamlet since he killed the king. When Hamlet kills Polonius he sees how unstable Hamlet is and that he can not take the chance and let Hamlet stay, which would risk his own safety. Claudius sends Hamlet to England so that on the way he can have him killed and he would no longer have to worry about the problem that is Hamlet.

Putting poisin in his drink (but fails and Gertrude ends up drinking it). 2. Poisining Laertes' sowrd so he would kill Hamlet while fighting, and he succeeds. (But of course that happens after Hamlet finds out and kills the King)
