I think you meant to say "What do people test on monkeys for experimentation?".. To answer your question, people test multiple things on monkeys and other lab animals. It could be lotion, perfume, body wash, hair spray, shampoo, chap stick, foundation, blush, sun tan lotion, tanning oils, body spray, deodorant, medication, antivirals, and other cosmetic, medical, or hygienic products.

Also, scientists use monkeys as lab experiments because they are extremely close to a human being. The closer the subject is to what the product will be used on, the better the results will be on whether or not the product is safe for us humans to use.

Probably not, although thousands of mice, guinea pigs, rats, and rabbits suffer and die in cosmetics tests every year in the U.S. alone. Each ingredient in a cosmetic or personal care product that needs to be tested can be run through many different tests on hundreds of animals. These animals rarely receive pain killers, and they are always killed at the end of each test.

Monkeys, because of their physiological similarities to humans, are reserved for other experiments, including:

  • Pharmaceutical tests: Animal tests have an appalling 92 percent failure rate in predicting the safety or effectiveness of pharmaceuticals, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Nonetheless, researchers force thick tubes up monkeys' nostrils or down their throats so that experimental drugs can be pumped into their stomachs. These animals endure pain, fear, and trauma.
  • Vaccine tests: Even though decades of these experiments on primates have failed to produce effective vaccines for humans, researchers still infect rhesus monkeys (and chimpanzees) with diseases and then use them as test subjects for experimental vaccines. Monkeys are still infected with HIV-like diseases that cause them to suffer acute weight loss, major organ failure, breathing problems, and neurological disorders before they die in pain or are killed.
  • Military experiments and training: In recent experiments conducted by the military, researchers exposed primates to anthrax and infected them with botulism and Bubonic Plague. In chemical training exercises, researchers poisoned squirrel monkeys with nerve agents that caused them to convulse, even though human-patient simulators exist and provide more effective training. The poisonings were ended after protests from animal rights groups
  • Maternal-deprivation experiments: Over 50 ago, Harry Harlow pulled baby primates away from their mothers, giving them only rag dolls or wire dolls as substitutes. Even though we know the negative implications of separating babies from their mothers, researchers at places such as the Oregon National Primate Research Center, Wake Forest University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Washington still tear infant monkeys from their mothers in order to cause psychological trauma and examine the damage that results. In recent frivolous studies, experimenters examined the connection between maternal deprivation and whether the baby monkeys became right-handed or left-handed or how it affected the monkeys' alcohol-drinking behavior later in life.
  • Invasive brain experiments: In common experiments at universities across the country, including the University of Utah, the University of California at San Francisco, and the University of Washington, researchers drill holes into monkeys' skulls, screw metal restraint devices into their heads, and insert electrodes into their brains. Experimenters at Columbia University caused strokes in baboons by removing their left eyeballs and using the empty eye sockets to clamp critical blood vessels leading to their brains. Some animals have portions of their brains destroyed or removed to impair their cognitive function or cripple them. These animals then have their bodies immobilized in restraint chairs and their heads bolted into place as they are forced to perform a variety of behavioral tasks while their brain activity is recorded. In order to coerce the monkeys to cooperate, researchers sometimes deprive them of water for up to 24 hours at a time. When the experiments end, researchers kill most of the animals and remove their brains to dissect them.
