Non-biodegradable plastics are still susceptible to mechanical attrition (wearing away), thermal degradation and ultraviolet light degradation. These forces eventually wear the pllast ic down to small particles ot destroy the bonds in the molecules to allow oxidation or biological action.

Plastic will be either incinerated or dumped in landfills if not recycled. However, in his case, the plastic is gone forever, whereas the plastic still exists when recycled. More greenhouse gases are produced when plastic is incinerated and when it has to be made again from petroleum.
