The Atkins diet is a high-protein, high-fat and low carbohydrates diet. If you don't have enough protein in your diet, you could die from several illnesses due to damage to your immune system. If you have too much protein in your diet, it is stored as fat. Many organs are affected by levels of protein in the body. The protein is first digested in the stomach, where it is broken down by the acid and enzymes. Then it goes into the small intestine, where enzymes from the pancreas help to break it down further into individual amino acids. Excess protein is not stored as excess protein, it is stored as fat or muscle, or is used as energy. Our bodies only use the required amounts of protein, and the rest is used elsewhere. A high protein diet can be dangerous but has a few advantages, for example; it can help you lose weight quickly, can lower cholesterol and improves bone density. With every pro there's a con such as; bad cholesterol levels may rise, it is a hard diet to stick to, this diet discourages the consumption of carbohydrates, which are actually needed daily for energy, there are no appetite suppressants involved with the high protein diet, there are no fat burner supplements involved with the diet, the high protein diet may not be suitable for vegetarians who do not eat meat products, since protein could be very hard to come by, the high protein diet may lead to the consumption of too much meat, which could be unhealthy. As the Atkins diet is generally a high protein diet, it too comes with these advantages and disadvantages.
