A tethered jailbreak means that YOU CAN NOT TURN OFF YOUR IPHONE or IPOD TOUCH and YOU CAN NOT LET YOUR IPHONE or IPOD RUN OUT OF BATTERY if you did any off these things on your tethered jailbreak you will have to BOOT your device which mean you will have to re jailbreak your packages

As of now, there is only a "tethered" jailbreak for the 5th generation. Tethered jailbreaks can be a pain, since you have to reinstall the software after each and every restart. If you want to jailbreak your 5th generation, I'd recommend to wait until an untethered jailbreak is released.

When you jailbreak an iPhone cydia is installed and Apple limitations are removed from iOS. A tethered jailbreak means you will have to connect to computer everytime you want to start your iPhone. While in untethered you do not need to connect to computer.
