What happens to the character played by Tim Allen in The Santa Claus?

Tim Allen plays a divorced dad named Scott Calvin who, one Christmas Eve, calls to the "strange man" on his roof, who falls and disappears leaving behind only his red suit and a card stating Tim had to be Santa next. So Tim gets in the sleigh with his son and carries on with Santa's duties. At the North Pole, his son gets a magical snow globe, and the next day Tim wakes up at home wearing strange pajamas, not knowing if it had all been a dream. His son still has the globe and remembers everything, but his father remembers nothing. Over the next year, Tim starts to fatten up and grow a beard just like Santa, and he eventually remembers everything. He thanks his son and remains as Santa Claus while also proving it to his ex and her new husband.
