Not much. It pretty much is on a slimy ride down a 10 inch tube that ends in the stomach. It is propelled down this hollow organ by a process called peristalsis. The name used for the ball of food at this point is a bolus. It consists of masticated (chewed) food plus saliva. The saliva has some enzymes that help digest carbohydrates and some glue-like stuff that makes it stick together into a ball, thus the name bolus.
