Your genes are all wound up together in chromosomes. Chromosomes are present in the nucleus of a cell. Before mitosis, the chromosomes undergo a process known as DNA synthesis, where the chromosomes are "copied". During mitosis these identical chromosomes are free to devide, whilst retaining all their characteristics, since they are all, in effect, doubled.

Genetic information is duplicated and passed on to daughter cells before, during, and after mitosis: (1) During interphase, DNA contained in the nucleus replicates but remains in long, loose strands. (2) During prophase, the strands of DNA coil tightly and become chromosomes. the nucleus breaks down and releases the chromosomes into the cytoplasm. Spindle fibers migrate to opposite ends of the cell. (3) Metaphase: spindle fibers attach to the ends of chromosomes and pull them into a line at the equator of the cell (meta, "middle"). (4) Anaphase: the spindle fibers get shorter, pulling the two arms of each chromosome apart into chromatids. (5) Telophase: the spindle fibers disentigrate as the chromatids reach opposite ends of the cells. Two nuclei form around each group. (6) During cytokinesis, the cell divides into two daughter cells. Each has its own nucleus with identical chromosomes and identical DNA. Note that this only occurs with somatic cells (aka, when skin repairs itself or bones grow). Reproductive cells pass genetic information to offspring via meiosis.

What happens during m phase (mitosis) of the cell cycle?

Nuclear division by mitosis or meiosis

What happens to the nucleosomes during mitosis?

During mitosis, the fibers of each individual chromosome are drawn together forming the tightly packed nucleosomes. The tight packing of nucleosomes may help separate chromosomes during mitosis.

Checkpoint genes that stimulate mitosis are called?

oncogenes

During what phase do the chromosomes move to the center of the cell aligned on the spindle apparatus?

This happens during metaphase. I remember this phase because it is the move phaseof mitosis. The m from move matches the m from metaphase. In mitosis, it happens during metaphase. In meiosis, it happens twice and occurs in metaphase 1 and metaphase 2.

Does gene copies DNA strand for mitosis?

Yes. Genes are composed of DNA, and DNA replication occurs during interphase. This is when the chromosomes are doubled.

In what stage do centrioles replicate?

Centrosomes replicate during the S phase of the CELL CYCLE not mitosis. Mitosis is one stage of the cell cycle. Replication does not happen during mitosis(M phase). It happens during the S phase. In fact, the opposite happens chromosomes are consdensed and packaged in preparation for splitting.
