What rock is formed when limestone is metamorphosed?

Marble is formed when limestone is metamorphosed. This process occurs when the mineral calcite in limestone recrystallizes due to heat and pressure, resulting in a denser, harder rock with a crystalline structure.

What happens when heat and pressure is applied to sedimentary rock?

The rock is metamorphosed: meaning its physical and/or chemical properpties are altered. E.g., limestone to marble.

What is the crystalline structure of phyllite?

phyllite is a type of metasedimentary rock. The parent rock likely contained clays and/or micas, which have metamorphosed into micas and aligned due to pressure. This shiny surface is produced by the alignment of the minerals.
