In Mamals:

One the fertilized ovuum implants, the ovary ceases to receive hormone signals to produce more eggs, so it stops producing eggs.

In Plants:

The petals, stigma, style and anthers wither and fall away, ovary swells to become the fruit as the seeds mature inside of it.

Just after the sperm enters the egg, and cell division begins, the CORPUS LEUTEUM (the Graffian Follicle, after ovulation) is maintained in the Ovary, which continues to secrete Oestrogen and progesterone that maintains the Endometrium (The blood vessel lining of the uterus) for the nourishment of the foetus.

This is maintained till the term of pregnancy. (Though the hormone sectretion is primararily take care of by the placenta)

Under normal circumstances, when fertilisation has not occured, the Corpus Leuteum is degraded to Corpus Albicans (White in colour, does not secrete hormones). When this happens, menstuation begins.

The fertilized ovule goes on to form a seed, which contains a food store and an embryo that will later grow into a new plant. The ovary develops into a fruit to protect the seed.
