Taking the queston to be:

What happens to ice 'particles' when ice is melting?:

1. Not sure what is meant by "particles".

2. Ice is the solid form of water. Water has a property that it does change volume when it changes from solid to liquid.

(The maximum density of water is at 4 degrees C.)

Irrelevant: So, when the ice melts, the water level does not change.

When an ice cube melts it reduces in size until it completely melts into liquid form.

So what you may say, and I would agree. The question, even when re-phrased as above, is vague, to say the least, even possibly inappropriate. The molecules do gain enough energy to escape their lattice crystal configuration if that's what the questioner was after.

The fate of the particles will depend on the composition of the particles and the medium into which the ice is melting. Some of the particles are air bubbles, and they open upon melting. Some of the particles, may be salts that have precipitated out or crystallized, and will either enter into solution or remain as solids suspended in the resulting liquid. Some particles may be suspended insoluables, in which case they will remain pretty much the same.

as we know that water is maximum dense between the temperature ranges of 0-4 degree cellcius.and expands when heated or cooled by means havind duall nature of expansion.but the method of expansion is different while heating and cooling.when ice formation process is carried then the the molecules of water cooled and kinetic energy is directlyy proportional to temperature that minised.and the motion of particles becomes less.and a hydrogen linkage is formed between them,as liquid molecules slide each other easilly.but when they grown solid each required specic voulme to occupy.simillarly the volume of water expands.

by same way when ice is melted whole the process is gone toreverse phenomenon.temperature rises and the kinetis energy of the molecules incresasee.and there solidness comes to fluidity

The particles during the melting of ice speed up because they are changing phase from a solid to a liquid. In a solid such as ice, the particles are packed tightly together and have no room to move, but in a liquid they move faster because they are a little more spread out and have more room to move. A gas moves even faster because it has a lot of room to move around because it will expand itself to take up its entire containment space.

In a solid, like ice, the particles are tightly packed.

This is why ice doesn't move too much. When the ice melts,

it's partcles spread farther apart, transfering into the state

of a liquid- also known to most people as water.

To start with the ice cube's particles are all linked in straight lines - unable to move however, when heated, the particles become movable - but still linked together (they become flexible)

The molecules forming the ice crystals move around faster because of the temperature change, weakening their bonds, so the ice becomes liquid water! :)

Does an ice cube melt quicker as it gets smaller?

Melting of an ice cube mainly depends on the temperature of surrounding. If the larger ice cube is put at 50 degrees Celsius and small one at 25 degree Celsius the large ice cube will melt faster than the smaller one. Ice cube draws energy from the surrounding which causes it to melt and so temperature of surrounding is very important

Does Ice cubes melt in the Sahara?

yes they do. the sun is so hot in the desert therefore they can melt within 30 seconds. However it also gets very, very cold at night, this may keep the ice cube from melting.

Do melting ice cubes cause liquids to rise?

No. As ice cubes float, they displace the same volume of water that they contain. This is known as Archimedes' Principle. If they melt, the water level will stay exactly the same. Try it yourself by adding an ice cube to a glass and marking the water level. After the ice melts, you will see that there has been no change in the water level.

When Ice floating on water melts what happens to liquid level and why?

When ice cube is submerged on water...The upthrust created on the ice cube by water is equal to the weight of the displaced water...when the ice cube is melting its volume changes but its weight remains the same and its exactly equal to the weight of displaced water when the ice cube was frozen...therefore the 'volume of of melted water' fits exactly to the 'volume of displaced water when the ice cube was frozen'... So the water level does not change! -Shenal K Mendis ;)

What causes alcohol to melt ice cubes?

There is nothing special about alcohol -- anything that is in contact with ice that is warmer than 0 °C will melt ice cubes (as long as the mass of warm object is comparable to the mass of the ice -- obviously a cup of warm water won't melt the ice on an entire lake for instance). When two objects of different temperatures are put in contact (as when you put ice cubes in a drink), the warmer one will always transfer heat to the cooler one. If the warmer one transfers enough heat to melt the ice cubes, then they melt! If not, they might just partially melt. It's actually possible to add ice cubes to alcohol and not have them melt at all! The freezing point of alcohol is well below 0 °C, and so you can have liquid alcohol be much colder than frozen ice cubes. If you add an ice cube to alcohol that is colder than the ice cube, the ice cube will be cooled by the alcohol!

What happens to an ice cubes particles when the ice cube is melting does the weight remains the same?

As the ice cube is solid , the particles are tightly packed together but as it melts it changes to a liquid so the particles change so that they are like particles in a liquid. the mass is conserved ( stays the same)

What happens to salt particles when a ice cube is melting?

They stay right in the salt shaker where they are suppose to be.

How is science related to the melting time of ice cubes?

A lot of factors affect an ice cube, and this can be described using science. For example you can use science to explain the transfer of heat from the ice cube particles to the surrounding air, as cold is transfered to a particle which is hotter, which causes the outer particles of the ice cube to gain hear and to melt etc. :)

What is the regular melting rate of ice cubes?

this will depend on the temperature of the atmosphere the ice cube is in and the surface area to volume ratio of the ice cube amongst other things....

What is melting ice cubes?

An ice cube melts from the outside layer in. As the outer layer of molecules gains energy it starts to vibrate and moves from solid to liquid phase, sloughing off and allowing the next layer to undergo the same process.

What temperature of water is best for ice cube melt faster?

If Ice cubes are melting in water, the temperature of both the ice cubes and the water will be exactly the freezing temperature of water: 32F, 0C. You cannot change this. You can add heat to make the ice cubes melt faster, but the extra heat will have no effect on the temperature, It will all go to melting the ice cubes.

What happens when an ice cube changes into water?

It gets warmer, has a lesser volume. It is called melting.

Do shapes of ice cubes affect its melting?

Possibly. The amount of surface area the ice cube has could influence how fast it gets warm, and then how fast it melts.

What happens to particles when an ice cube melts?

The ice cube (solid) particles are compact tightly together. Yet, when the temperature of the ice cube increases then the particles become more active and begin to move apart except they are still attracted to one another.
