What happens is this the belt itself will separate into one disconnected jagged piece, and therefore will no longer complete a full circle. What you should do is to superglue the belt back together into one single completed circle and waalaaaaaaa your belts fixed.
But seriously if a belt breaks replace it as it could be your alternator belt-your ac compressor belt or your drive belt. If it is only the ac belt that's no big deal-but the other two need immediate replacment is required or the parts they turn will no longer operate. ie: Your battery will no longer charge via the alternator .
