Well it's definitely not very good for them, it would be very dangerous.
But it depends how big the piece of rubber is, but dogs really shouldn't eat rubber.
If your dog does eat rubber, I would suggest you take it to a vet=)
it would half to be took to the doctor!!
Additional: If the dog is choking, you will have to act fast. Go through dog choking procedures if the dog appears to be losing air. This includes checking the airways and then the Heimlich maneuver for dogs. The article below goes over symptoms of chocking and proper procedure in canines.
A rubber band ball may well cause an intestinal blockage which is a very painful experience.
Left untreated a blockage may lead to more severe medical problems, such as cut off blood supply, death of intestinal tissues due to this lack of blood flow, and severe abdominal pain. It's possible for the dog to develop peritonitis, which is an infection in the abdomen that can lead to shock and even death.
If you think your dog swallowed a rubber band ball, you should not delay in getting him to a veterinarian.
Some animals such as cats and dogs like to play and eat rubber bands. Should an animal eat some, one should watch its stool to ensure the animal passes it. It may also vomit the band up as well. Should the animal not pass it either way, one should consult a vet as it could be lodged in its throat.
It will pass through and come out in it's stool
Depends.
A longer piece might get entangled in the intestine and damage the dog. A shorter piece is likely to pass right through.
They could choke on it.
