The never paint will never harden, mostly stay tacky
Primer application is a part of the paint preparation.
depending of the condition of the sheet metal before painting .just use the same of good automotive primer
the answer is durability. the urethane systems are 2 part (3 if you reduce it) the second part is a catalyst or hardener that chemically links to the primer surfacer. making it resistant to solvents, shrinking, heat.
Sand well first with 600 grit wet 'n dry. Then use a good primer coat before painting.
Some automotive coating paint options include pre-treatment, primer surfacers, and top coats. These all serve different purposes, and are applied as needed or desired.

Don't know that a leaking primer bulb can be repaired. Most likely, you have to replace it. You don't want to forget the routing of the fuel lines!! You might want to make a drawing of the routing before you remove the primer bulb.
I am familiar with a process where we successfully painted plastic automotive interior parts electrostatically by first applying a conductive primer orbase-coatconventionally.
Nothing.. Gunpowder does not impact-detonate, which is why bullets have a "primer" that will ignite the gunpowder when it is struck. Nothing.. Gunpowder does not impact-detonate, which is why bullets have a "primer" that will ignite the gunpowder when it is struck.
An etch primer contains phosphoric acid which will react with ferrous metal to form ferrousphosphate crystals as a barrier to limit rust-creep under the coating. The resin used normally is a polyvinylbuterate for the best adhesion to the substrate as adhesion=rust prevention.Peet Harmse
It will not stick very well unless you use a primer in between.
Later on, the topcoat will peel off in large chunks, showing the bare wood underneath.
