Carbon dioxide is a very stable element and only breaks when in solution or when it has enough energy added to break formation. If oxygen and carbon dioxide mix at normal pressure (~1atm) nothing happens, the carbon dioxide will sit underneath the oxygen because it is much heavier then oxygen. If oxygen and carbon dioxide are in a very high pressure vessel they will form a solid at low temperatures, just like any other gas.

if you also add a metal you can make a carbonate,

-

CaCO3 - Calcium Carbonate

CuCO3 - Copper Carbonate

Na2CO3 - Sodium Carbonate

Any substance with O3 in is a carbonate. O3 is Oxygen X3

Ca = calcium

C = carbon

O = oxygen

Na = Sodium

notes:

Metal Carbonates release Carbon Dioxide (CO2) when they react with Acids. The general equasion for this reaction is:

ACID + METAL CARBONATE -> A SALT + CARBON DIOXIDE + WATER

this was copied from my old yr 7 science book.

Do you mean 2 molecules of oxygen? And one molecule of Carbon? The combination creates carbon dioxide, or CO2, or the fizzy stuff in your coke.
