What is the Prepration of phenyl benzoate from phenol?

reacting a benzoyl chloride with a phenol to get an phenyl benzoate(ester).

If ethyl benzoate is treated with phenylmagnesium bromide a one to one mixture of benzophenone and triphenylmethanol are obtained after work-up. Why?

The MgBr causes the carbon that it's attached to in the phenylmagnesium bromide to become negative and attack the carbonyl carbon of the ethyl benzoate. The carbonly obtains a new bond with a phenyl group and loses its double bond to oxygen. It instead becomes a single bond and oxygen becomes negative (theoretically, the MgBr will attach to the oxygen as an intermediate phase). This attack of the carbon attached to the MgBr will happen a second time creating a carbon attached to 3 phenyl groups (triphenyl) and upon reduction of this compound (using H2 and a catalyst or LiAlH4), -OCH2CH3 gets protonated and leaves as ethanol, and the carbon and oxygen get protonated to CH3OH. I hope this makes sense to you, lol.

What happens if you drink phenyl?

Phenyl isn't a thing; the term Phenyl is an adjective, indicating that something is a member of chemistry's Phenyl group. The Phenyl Group is a functional group with the forumla -C6H5. Without knowing what exact compound we're referring to, it'sd impossible to say how harmful it is. Be advised some compounds within the Phenyl group can indeed be quite dangerous. If you meant Phenol, that's carbolic acid, once used as an antiseptic, and one of the compounds that gives Scotch whiskey its flavor. As with all questions of toxicity, it depends completely upon the dosage over time. It is quite possible to receive harmless doses of phenol, as well as dosages that are very dangerous. When in doubt, ask a healthcare provider. If u have meant the cleaning agent as phenyl, then the household cleansing agent is phenol.Ingestion of 1 g of phenol will cause muscle weakness, tremors, loss of coordination, conulsions , coma and respiratory arrest. Some phenyl derivatives are even said to be neurotoxic to humans.
