What happens it the hermit crab wont come out of the shell?

It could be because the shell is dirty, to small or searching for a new one. Hermit crabs are always in their shells. Hermit crabs will never leave their shells unless switching. hermit cabs are nocturnal animals so our day is their night. try talking to it all the time and maybe it will come out. mine wont come out either but i keep talking to it and shes coming out more. my brothers comes out all the time and mine stays in so they have different types. sometimes they are active at the store and when you get home they stay in their shell(like mine) there is no need to worry it is not dead it is just sleeping what i do is i check on it every time i go in my room or if i have free time it moves alot!

Well some Hermit crabs dont come out of their shell DURING THE DAY!!!!!!!My hermit crab likes to come out of its shell during night, crabs also like the outside!!!!!. try taking it out side for a while but not if its to cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Take it out during a warm day..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!But some hermit crabs cant go in the heat or cold it is best to keep them in side like my hermit crabs sleeps a lot during the day but still comes out then to and still sleeps during night too he/she is VARRy active

i dont know for sure but it might be because the shell that it is moving in to might be too big or too small or them hermit crab could be very sterresed and want to be alone

The hermit crabs probably has been out of it's shell, hermies are nocturnal. But if you are afraid that it's dead then smell the tank, if it smells like dead fish then a hermie has died :(
