If the Ark of the Covenant, given to Moses by God during the Exodus from Egypt, is ever found, history will have to be rewritten. It is the strong consensus of historians that there was no Exodus from Egypt as described in The Bible, which means there should be no Ark of the Covenant.

No, the depiction in the movie is fictional. In reality, the Ark of the Covenant is a religious artifact with historical and symbolic importance in Judaism and has not been definitively located or opened to confirm any supernatural occurrences.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is a work of fiction.

Scripture tells the story of a man who touched the ark with his bare hand. He died instantly. There are no stories in Judeo-Christian conventional which suggest what may happen if you open the ark. Moses himself is the only individual who is shown to handle the tablets of the Ten Commandments directly.
