In modern times, those who die from Bubonic Plague (the nominal cause of the Black Death) have their bodies treated as a biological hazard (which, frankly, they are), and afforded special treatment. In more developed countries, the usual recommendation for burial is to be cremated, though use of a sealed metal casket is also possible for those who don't believe in cremation.

In less developed countries, cremation is generally the method used to dispose of the dead person's body, with it being done very promptly to prevent any infection from spreading.

Historically, part of the reason that the Black Death was so bad was that proper disposal of dead bodies was poorly done. Often, the dead were left out in the street for "burial crews" to come and pick up; these crews had a high rate of infection themselves, and insufficient numbers in these crews meant that is was common for bodies to be left for several days by the roadside. Additionally, most bodies were simply buried in the ground, without even a coffin, let alone a metal-lined one (and cremation was spotty).
