Helen Keller faced the rather extreme hardship of being both blind and deaf. Bear in mind that blind people usually depend on the sense of hearing as their main source of information, and deaf people usually depend upon the sense of sight as their main source of information. Helen Keller, being both blind and deaf, had to depend on her sense of touch, and that was extremely difficult. It is impressive that she was able to become a functioning member of society in spite of this hardship.
