If alcohol is consumed in moderation, there are no harms to the body. To the contrary, the moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with better health and greater longevity than is either abstaining from it or abusing it.

However, alcohol abuse reduces your inhibitions, which can lead you to do stupid things which cause other injuries. It also wears down your liver (the liver filters toxins like alcohol from the blood), and can cause liver disease if you drink too much. It may also have adverse effects on the brain.
